Message Same stuff they sell for doing furniture. I did mine and it came out excellent. Here's what I did:

1. Peel off all the existing finish down to the bare carbon. Trim around the SMZ logo with a razor blade if you want to keep it intact. Ask me how I know :(
2. Rig up a jig to hold the knob vertical while it drys. I can't remember what I used. Don't wait until it's dripping to figure out what your going to use!
3. Dip the knob directly into the can of urethane, then set it in your jig. Think "chocolate dipped ice cream cone."

The urethane drys to a smooth and flexible coating. I did mine two years ago and it still looks great.
